If you’re a worker

If you've sustained a work-related injury in Queensland, it's important to understand the process for lodging a workers' compensation claim.

Here's a step-by-step guide to assist you:

Seek Medical Attention

As soon as possible after the injury, consult a doctor to assess your condition.

Request a Work Capacity Certificate during this visit, as it's a mandatory document for your claim.

Notify Your Employer

Inform your employer about the injury promptly. This notification can be verbal or written, but documenting it in writing is advisable for record-keeping purposes.

Lodge Your Claim

You have several options to submit your workers' compensation claim:

  • Online Submission: The quickest method is to complete and submit the claim form online.
    worksafe.qld.gov.au

  • Phone Submission: Call WorkCover Queensland at 1300 362 128 for assistance in lodging your claim over the phone.
    worksafe.qld.gov.au

  • Mail Submission: Download and complete the claim form, then mail it to GPO Box 2459, Brisbane QLD 4001.
    worksafe.qld.gov.au

Ensure you lodge your claim within six months of the injury or from when you became aware of the injury. Delays beyond this period may affect your eligibility.

Await Claim Decision

WorkCover Queensland aims to decide on claims within 20 business days, provided all necessary information is available. They will contact you if additional details are required or if there are delays.

Utilize the Worker Assist App

To monitor your claim's progress conveniently, download WorkCover Queensland's Worker Assist app. This secure platform allows you to:

  • Track your claim status

  • Upload necessary documents

  • View upcoming compensation payments

  • Communicate directly with your claims advisor

The app is available for both Android and iOS devices.

If you’re an employer

  • Make contact with your worker as early as possible after the injury.

  • Let WorkCover know the injury has happened. If you are self-insured, you need to let your insurer know. Find out why you need to do this.

  • lodge your report within 8 business days of becoming aware of the injury or of WorkCover requesting the information from you.           More information on how to report an injury can be found on the make a claim page.

  • start planning your worker’s return to work with them.

  • You'll need to report the injury to WorkCover even if your worker doesn’t make a claim and even if you don’t agree it may be eligible for compensation
